Our Division consists of a team of professors, adjunct professors, lecturers, and academic/research/teaching assistants committed to prepare graduate students for professional careers in food and nutrition science. Faculty members are specialized in research of traditional fermented foods and rice in the areas of food chemistry, food analysis and processing, functional foods, food preservation and safety. Nutrition research focuses on antioxidants, chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes, and mineral metabolism through nutritional biochemistry, metabolomics, nutrition epigenetics, and clinical nutrition approaches. Our graduate program also includes a clinical nutrition program certified by the Korean Institute of Dietetic Education and Evaluation for those interested in becoming a clinical dietitian.

Clinical Nutrition Program for graduate students
Clinical dietitians are trained to work in healthcare facilities and provide nutrition therapy according to each patients' need. The Clinical Nutrition Program at Chonnam National University is accredited by the Korean Institute of Dietetic Education and Evaluation and provides Master's level graduate training necessary to apply for the Korean clinical dietitian exam. Experienced faculty provide in-depth knowledge based on scientific evidence and understanding of our food culture. Graduate students in this program must complete the required coursework and participate in a semester-long field training program.
Degree Requirements
Graduate students are required to earn 24 credits for a Master's degree and 36 credits for a PhD. Students must pass a comprehensive exam to acquire a graduate degree. Those that have a graduate GPA of 4.2 or above (out of 4.5) and those that have published a paper as first author in an SCI(E) or Korean Citation Index (KCI) peer-reviewed journal are exempt of this exam. Graduates must also demonstrate proficiency in English (or Korean, for foreign students).
