Welcome to the Division of Food and Nutrition!
The Division of Food and Nutrition is recognized for its outstanding teaching, research, and outreach to enhance food quality and human nutrition. Our Division was awarded Best Educational Department within Chonnam National University in 2013 and received recognition for its educational program for the past three consecutive years. The Undergraduate program of the Division of Food and Nutrition is made up of two majors – Food Science and Nutrition Science. Both majors have a strong scientific component including organic chemistry, biochemistry, and human physiology. Undergraduates are also provided with many opportunities to work in hospitals, research labs, industry, etc which help prepare students for a professional career. Areas of career opportunities include dietetics, product development and marketing, foodservice, academia, and government agencies. To obtain greater depth in food science or nutrition science, students may pursue graduate studies. Graduate students may earn a Master’s or PhD degree under the guidance of a faculty member of the Division. Our faculty’s diverse expertise in areas such as food microbiology, food processing and analysis, functional foods, food chemistry, metabolomics, nutritional epigenetics, and clinical nutrition can provide the necessary training according to each graduate students’ interest. Our graduate program also offers a Clinical Nutrition Program accredited by the Korean Institute of Dietetic Education and Evaluation for those pursuing a career as a clinical dietitian.
